cb_PMM - Mapping Demo (Live)

This demo shows how to connect a LAN-internal webserver to the Internet.

As an example for a LAN-internal webserver we use the embedded webserver IPC@CHIP from Beck IPC Gmbh.

The IPC@CHIP (DK40) is connected to a LAN, one PC in the LAN has a permanent Internet-connection. cb_PMM runs on this PC and maps incoming http requests from port 3540 to the IPC@CHIP, port 80.

Please note, that the described method can be applied to ANY client/server connection on TCP-sockets, the usage of the IPC@CHIP is only an example.

Click at the IPC@CHIP in the image (or here) to connect to its internal webserver via cb_PMM on the gateway-PC.

Remarks: If your browser is not able to view the webpage on our DK40 there may be two reasons:

  • As the PC (which acts as the gateway running cb_PMM) is a development/test system, it might be down at the moment. Please try again in a while.
  • More likely: Your webbrowser can not access the IPC@Chip, because your computer might be behind a firewall which denies outgoing socket connections to TCP-servers listening on port 3540.

FAQ for the Mapping Demo

Q: What do I need to set up a similar system?

A: You need three components:

  1. A PC with a permanent Internet connection (a fix IP-address) and a LAN connection. Operating system: Windows (98, NT4.0 or 2000)
  2. An IPC@Chip connected to the LAN
  3. cb_PMM, the Port-Mapping-Monitoring software (download from here)

Q: How do I set up the demo system?

A: There are three easy steps:

  1. Verify the connection to IPC@Chip (i.e. using ping) and verify the function of the internal http-server (i.e. with your webbrowser)
  2. Install and configure cb_PMM as described here. Use the following settings:
    Bind IP: [none]
    Listen Port: 3540
Map IP: [IP-address of your IPC@Chip]
    Map Port: 80
    Map: [checked]
If you wish you can also check "Log", "Log to Screen" and/or "Log to File" and select any "Data Mode"
  3. Start the Mapping with the "Start"-function of cb_PMM.

Now you are ready to open the URL "http://NameOrIPAddressOfThePC:3540" in your webbrowser.

Q: I followed the advice here but something does not work. I think I found a bug. What can I do?
